The Education Center for Adoptive Parents Online: Research Opportunity for Adoptive Families

IRIS Educational Media in Eugene, Oregon has been awarded a grant* to develop and evaluate a parent training program specifically designed for adoptive parents focusing on topics that blend general positive parenting skills with adoption-specific strategies.

This project builds on a media program, Adoptive Parent Training: Developing Communication Skills, which is available on DVD and online and features video, printable resources, and skill building exercises.

IRIS Educational Media's new project will add additional online features (personal learning communities, podcasts, etc.) and include new program topics, such as:

• Communication with extended family, the outside world and school
• Promoting adopted children's resilience
• Remedial parenting and counteracting risk
• Cultural competence in raising the trans-racially and/or trans-culturally adopted child
